Cleanroom accessories: Cytostatics

Cytostatic drugs are usually manufactured in clean rooms, with high demands on the environment as well as on the products required for production. The challenge here is to manufacture a sterile product on the one hand and to protect the environment from a hazardous substance (highly active substance, harmful to humans and the environment) on the other. Production usually takes place in workbenches, isolators and R.A.P.S. For a better understanding of the topic, we will briefly explain what cytostatics are.

What are cytostatic drugs?

Cytostatics are drugs that inhibit/contain the growth of cancer cells. The production of cytostatic drugs requires high technical and personnel requirements. As a rule, cytostatic drugs are administered parenterally, i.e. they are injected or infused into the patient's bloodstream. These solutions must therefore be sterile. All working materials used for production must be compatible with the cytostatic drugs.
