ISO 14644-5, a key standard for users of cleanroom technologies, is currently undergoing a comprehensive revision process. Since its introduction in 2004, the standard has set global standards for the operation of cleanrooms and clean environments. In view of technological advances and changing requirements, the standard is now being adapted to the current state of the art.
The revision was initiated in November 2019 in order to integrate new developments in cleanroom technology and changing industry-specific requirements. The current draft of the revised standard was published in July 2024 and the final publication of the new version is expected in the coming years.
ISO 14644-5 defines basic requirements and guidelines for the operation of cleanrooms. This part of the standard describes normative and informative requirements for a targeted program to establish, measure and enforce defined operating procedures to ensure the cleanliness of processes and products manufactured in cleanrooms. With the revision, the responsible committee aims to take into account new technologies such as advanced monitoring systems and energy-efficient solutions. The adjustments are intended to make the operation of cleanrooms more efficient and sustainable without compromising safety and cleanliness in sensitive production and research areas.
The revision process is being carried out by an international panel of experts. Companies that operate cleanrooms and cleanroom technology experts were invited to actively participate in the discussion and contribute their experience. As a cleanroom expert and leading company for contamination control in cleanrooms, comprei also contributed its opinion to the expert panel.
The new version of ISO 14644-5 creates a future-proof standard that meets the requirements of modern technologies and industrial processes.
ISO 14644 is an internationally recognized series of standards that defines standards for cleanrooms and clean environments. It covers various aspects, including the classification of air cleanliness (ISO 14644-1), test methods (ISO 14644-3) and specific requirements for operation (ISO 14644-5).
